TAXING AUTHORITY REPRESENTATION

Nothing can be more frightening than getting a notice from the IRS or any other taxing authority saying you owe money or are scheduled for an audit.  At RainCity CPA, PLLC, we are well versed in how to approach these problems with the goal of securing a satisfactory resolution for you.

IRS & State Audits

  • IRS & State audits are random and can happen to any business or individual. These audits are not always performed under the assumption that the tax returns were filed falsely or incorrectly, but are sometimes used to verify that the filings are, in fact, true and correct.  But because federal & state tax codes are complex and RainCity CPA, PLLC has extensive knowledge of these codes, we can either confirm or argue their findings by citing specific tax codes, by explaining the taxpayer’s intent, or by providing more documentation.  Unlike a nervous taxpayer, who is unsure how to respond to an auditor, our experience allows us to prepare a counter attack, confine the audit to the issues listed on the notice and to clarify on your behalf any gray areas or questionable deductions.  Our goal as your representative is to achieve a zero due audit finding.Back To Top

Miscellaneous Taxing Authority Audits

  • Many of the taxing authorities such as Labor & Industry (LNI) or the Department of Revenue (DOR) routinely audit businesses to determine whether the appropriate state/local taxes were reported and paid correctly. The taxing authorities will look into the taxes you pay such as business & occupation tax, retail sales tax, use tax and public utility tax and determine if you have paid in the correct amount. Additionally, the audit may cover business activities such as income, deductions and exemptions and purchases to verify their findings.  Our skilled team can help you compile all the necessary accounting records to prepare for the audit as well as represent you during the audit to clarify your position on items in question before the audit results are finalized.Back To Top

Federal and State Penalty Notices

  • Individuals and businesses receive penalty notices for many reasons; filing late or non-filing, errors on tax returns, or short/non-payments. And these penalties can be quite high depending on the type as well as time frame associated with the filing window.  As your representative, we can address these penalties with the taxing authority to help minimize and/or abate certain penalties in the most expeditious manner possible.Back To Top

Offer in Compromise

  • Sometimes a tax debt is too great for the individual or business taxpayer to just write a check for the total amount owed. An Offer in Comprise (OIC) is a program that allows taxpayers to settle their tax debt for a portion of the tax liability owed.  However, the reduced amount is not based on your total tax debit, but rather, on your ability to pay through assets, equity & income, the collection statute date of the debt, and even special circumstances.  A taxpayer cannot simply call the IRS and ask for a deal. This is where RainCity PCA, PLLC can help you. There are several forms that need to be accurately completed along with detailed financial information that supports your request for an adjusted tax debt.  Since the interest keeps accruing during the negotiation process, it can cost some taxpayers more in interest than using our services to swiftly and accurately represent your position and negotiate the best deal for you.Back To Top
